With the UK gripped in the midst of a scorching heatwave, I’m simply just trying to cool down and take it easy. Here how I’m surviving the heatwave of 2018.

Last Sunday it was the hottest day of the year, reaching up to 33 Celsius (80-90 Fahrenheit). And while you might see the temperatures and just think ‘oh for god sake, try 40-45 Celsius honey and then come back to me’.

For this Brit, 33 Celsius it was hot enough for me. I genuinely cannot imagine what 50-45 Celsius might feel like. So apology if you do live in a hot climate, please do understand I’m uncustomary to such hot climate and I purposely do feel I’m not designed for hot weather.

As I was saying, the hottest day of the year. The UK is gripped in the midst of a scorching heatwave and this Brit right here is currently melting. There nothing left of me, just this big puddle of water on the floor at my place.

Now I’m not going to complain as I’m sure you guys are bored with me, repeating myself like a broken record. I’m sure you’re thinking, god Anna put a sock in it.

So let skip the complaining part and let start off with me, being a puddle of water on the floor.

Yes, I first notice the heat and the effect it can have on me was when we went to the Horniman Museum and Gardens. Without going in too many details, let just say I’m was just a mess that day. I was not prepared for the heat. I foolishly put on a long sleeve top, big mistake. It just made me 10x hotter. What was I thinking?

That day, combined with the heat and me wearing my long sleeve top; I was physically and mentally drained. I had no energy to do anything. I came home and just collapse on the floor.

Since then I have pretty much stayed at home. Or at least stayed indoor and have pretended that this heat doesn’t exist. Which isn’t easy as my place has been an oven, and the heat just seems to be everywhere.

Anyway, it has been pretty much a full-time occupation for me trying to cool down. I’ve been doing the usual laying by the fan, cooling down with a damp flannel and just taking cold showers.

Another way of me cooling down is by me taking unexpected trips to Sainsbury’s. Don’t laugh – but it perfectly logical. Who doesn’t love supermarket air conditioning?

You know those weirdos who hang around supermarket all day and don’t really do much. Well, guess who has been that weirdo?

In all seriousness, I did have a purpose of keep visiting a supermarket. No, really I did. Baileys have brought out a special edition of their drink and I have made it my mission to get hold off it. It a strawberry and cream Baileys.

But every time I went in to buy a bottle as I was desperate to try it. Who wouldn’t want to try out Baileys strawberry and cream? It was sold out.

I’m sure the supermarket assistant might have thought that not only was I a supermarket hanger, but also a super Baileys freak and just needed my fixed.

I did eventually pick up a bottle and I will be sharing this on a later date.

But it was one those supermarket trips that I decided to perhaps go for an alternative drink and try something else.

So I came up with Pina Colada. Which I’m sure none of you is surprised as it my favourite cocktail drink and I do tend to go on about it, quite a bit. It also a simple drink as it just consists of rum, coconut cream and pineapple juice, not exactly rocket science.  But this time I did add a little twist by using coconut ice-cream and chocolate flakes.

But in all honesty, just adding ice cream to the drink as well as adding ice, it did do the trick. I found myself refreshed and instantly cooled.

What you can learn from this statement Is that throughout this heatwave I have been an alcoholic. There I have admitted it. Never mind an AA meeting. I will be needing a PC AA meeting instead.

A heatwave always makes me so thirsty, so I have been chugging down those Pina Colada. Who can blame me?

I’m sure you have your own favourite drink that you reach too when trying to stay hydrated during a heatwave.

So want to know how I’m surviving the surviving the heatwave of 2018? It’s simple: Pina Colada and supermarket air conditioning.

How are you coping with this heatwave? Do you have any tips to share?
