Over the weekend, a big thing happens to me – I finally lost the final pound, and I finally lost over a stone in weight.
Oh my god! I could cry; in fact, I did cry. I have been trying to lose that stubborn pound for god-know how long. It was so nice to see that final pound disappear. I could finally say, ‘goodbye, good luck and don’t come back’.
It has been like that for every pound I managed to lose. I never held a ‘bon voyage’ party for that pound, but I made sure it wasn’t welcome any more.
Yes, I’m talking about a pound of fat. I like to imagine that pound of fat is this little creature from Doctor who:
My weight loss hasn’t really been something I have talked about too much on here. I don’t know if I feel comfortable talking about it now. But I will plough on as I want to share what worked for me and what didn’t.
I won’t be giving you measurement or the typical before and after pictures, but trust me when I said I was overweight, and I needed to do something about it.
There a whole list of reason on why I decided to venture into this weight loss journey but primarily, I wanted to fit back into my clothes and not feel so self-conscience about myself.
Anyway, let me delve into my weight loss story and tell you everything I did to help me lose weight.
I started with Slimming World:
I liked Slimming World for their exclusive online service as it means I don’t have to go to a class which I hate. I can do it in the comfort of my own home and do it whenever I wanted to.
I also liked how flexible they were with how many foods were syns free. I could eat what I wanted without guilt.
I did for the first 2-3 months lose a good few pounds, which was amazing. As long as I don’t overeat my syns free foods, keep the portion small then the weight just came off.
I didn’t stay with Slimming World for long as I wanted something else that could help me in a more profound sense, something where I could tackle my issues deeper and harder…
So,
So, I then joined Weight Watchers.
Joined Weight Watchers (WW)
I read a brilliant Weight Watchers article which outlined how they have rebranded and made it more personalized. (Sorry I cannot find that article now!)
This is what made me joined Weight Watchers. It was a bloody godsend! My first week I lost 4 pounds and them the weight just dropped off like magic.
I love WW due to the fact their app is fantastic. You can scan any foods items using the barcode reader on the app, and it will tell you how many points it is and if fit within your daily points allowance. The food diary is brilliant as it helps keep a log of all the foods you had throughout the day (and yes this does include snacks) and what size portions they were.
I know people find figuring portion sizes a pain in the neck, but WW made it so simple with their app. I also had Richard helping me on a day to day basis.
If you ever get stuck, you can always talk to an online coach, and I also find the community to be helpful, and often you find lovely recipes for yourself.
I highly recommend Weight Watchers, and I still use it as I had such good results.
Drinking 2 litres of water a day
I got myself a 1-litre water bottle and drunk from it all day. I pushed myself every day to refill it and to drink to in total 2 litres of water. You find yourself thirstier in the morning and when you are working out at the gym.
Cardio and strength at the gym
My gym is quite close to me, so I can pop in whenever I want to. The thing with me at a gym, I don’t like someone breathing down my neck or pushing me so hard I would throw up (it has happened before – so embarrassing). I wanted to set my own pace, do my own thing and spend as long as I like on a machine. What I would do is just a 30-40 mins workout and then go home. Sometimes all I do is just 5-10 mins on a cardio machine and lift no weights. Occasionally I do lift weights and strictly only strength training. I’m not the best, but I’m getting there, plus I kind-of like the burn afterwards.
I drink gallons of that stuff. Yes, I know it bad for you. But for a while, I was addicted to it. One day I just gave it up. It was easy, and I found after one day I had no real craven for it.
I had a nagging husband
I’m not kidding. He was very strict with me (but also fair). He helped me with my portion sizes and what was good to eat – and what isn’t. We work well as a team.
Those were everything I did to help me lose weight. I could also add that I have willpower, I was stubborn and determined, but truthfully, I didn’t. I did slip up and fell off the wagon many times, but I always pick myself up again and keep going.
My advice would be, don’t give up at the first hurdle and realize it doesn’t happen overnight.
