It was sunshine and hot weather for weeks upon end, the moment we decided to do something or perhaps go somewhere – it decides to rain. Typical if you ask me. It forced us to change our plan, so we decided to go to Canterbury in the rain instead.
Our original plan was to spend a couple of days by the beach soaking up some sunray, but the moment we were almost about to book our tickets, storm clouds soon appeared. The week beforehand, there was a heatwave, not a cloud in the sky – the moment we decided to go somewhere, mother nature decided, ‘ha, I will ruin your plan! It is said mother nature does have a sense of humour, after all.
So, we went to plan B, which was to go to Canterbury. To be honest, Canterbury been on my list of places to visit in the UK for a while now. Canterbury itself is only 2 hours outside of London so it quite surprising that I have never visited before as it so closes by.
Yes, as I was saying, plan B was Canterbury in the pouring rain. However, we didn’t let the weather let it dampen our spirit or let it ruin our fun. I will admit my first step in Canterbury was to hunt to find a sweater as I stupidly brought a t-shirt with me. I mean, it was supposed to be summer after all.
Most people who visit Canterbury make a pilgrim to the Cathedral. So obviously we decided to visit there as well. But that is not only the point of interest we noted while in Canterbury but also few others.
- House of Secret – a shop of Harry Potter merchandise. Five minutes’ walk from the Cathedral. They had everything a witch or wizard would ever need.
- The crooked bookshop – a bookshop where the mainframe of the building is a little crooked. It must be magic (or invisible solid steel framework) holding it up.
- The Butter market pub and restaurant – The food was delicious! Absolutely fricking delicious! I ordered a toad in the hole with mashed potatoes and vegetables, and it was just divine. I highly recommend this pub/restaurant as the food was amazing! I will most likely come back as I’m still thinking about the food I had.
- Canterbury Gate Hotel – right next to the Cathedral. This quirky little hotel is also fantastic! It has sloping floorboards, old wood beams and steeps stairs well. There was no doubt this has a charm to it. Another place I highly recommend, and it felt like a special treat having a delicious breakfast in bed in the morning.
I have done enough talking, and I think these pictures will show you what we saw while at Canterbury. I have also done vlog-style stories on my Instagram while at Canterbury, so feel free to check that out if you want to see more of what I got up to while there.
