Last week I unexpectedly got ill; one minute I was fine – the next, I found myself all sneezing and coughing; it was unpleasant. The illness did allow me to catch up on my reading, so here are a few books I read while I was ill.

I’m not such a bookworm anymore. When I was a kid, I loved spending my pocket money on books and spending my afternoon reading away. As an adult, I’m not like that anymore as I prefer watching Netflix or playing video games to reading.

I thought about that just before I got ill, that I needed to get to reading, and when I did fall sick, I decided now is a good excuse to get back to being a bookworm.

So here are a few books I read while I was ill, and I will say they are all Kindle books as I don’t use paperback books anymore; for me, it’s more convenient than anything else as I can read in the middle of the night without disturbing my husband or while I take a bath.

Sophie Ellis Bextor Autobiography Spinning Plates

Love Sophie Ellis Bextor! I have been a fan of her for many years as she never put a foot wrong when it comes to her music. She was fantastic during lockdown with her live Instagram disco kitchen show. Anyway, she now has written an autobiography, and as you can imagine, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it and to give it a read.

The draw with Sophie was how she seems to be down to earth and could be your neighbour or your mate, which was the vibe I felt throughout the book. I was interested in reading her music and the backstories of those, how she went from Groovejet to six solo albums. Sophie talked honestly about the music business and felt the industry was often sexist and alienated as a woman.

Overall, Sophie always came across as a lovely lady, and this book doesn’t disappoint as she writes honestly and with plenty of wits. If you are interested in motherhood and music, then you should read this book.

Sophie Kinsella, do you Remember?

I have read this book before, but it is such a good book that I decided to reread it. It is about a girl named Lexi who has amnesia, and she woke up from a car accident to find she married and head of a big company. It was a laugh out loud calamity as she picked up her life and her relationship.

I love Sophie Kinsella books as she writes with a lot of humour, and it is always enjoyable to read her books.

This book is a real page-turner, and once you start reading, you can’t put the book down. I feel a real kinship with the characters and how a simple case of amnesia turns one life upside.

The Insecure Girl’s Handbook Book by Liv Purvis

I brought this a while ago but never got around to reading it. I love Liv and her blog, so I was excited to give this a read. While it has no picture and is a straightforward textbook, I’m saying this as you might find it hard to digest, which I found upon first picking it up. It is filled with many lovely antidotes on how to be the best you, especially if you are techno manic-like me and obsessed with the world of online. As with the style of her blog, the writing of the book was very chatty, informal and it felt like a friend giving you advice.

I felt this book didn’t get to the heart of my issues, and after reading it, I thought that I was still insecure with myself. However, it must be said that my insecurity is a deep-rooted issue and one that would need a whole brain in valuation. After reading, I’m saying that I didn’t feel like I could take on the world and be secure with everything. That is not a drawback on the book itself, as there’s still plenty of advice and guidance on tackling your insecurity; it just wasn’t enough for someone like me.

Anyway, those were a few books I read while I was ill. Let me know if you have any good books recommendation.

Thank you for taking the time to read this post. Stay tuned for more updates!
