A few week ago I was invited to a Currys Movie Night, this mean an evening on a canal boat watching a film. Well I’m not going to say no am I! Wait a minute did you say film and canal boat? What? Yeah I imagine you being a little confused on this part but it was exactly like that, on a canal boat with a special equip cinema projection screen. So no stuffy darken cinema but an airy projection room with a big screen and comfy seat. Something like this:

No cinema experience would be complete without popcorn. The film of the evening was Mean Girls, A film that I will admit that I haven’t seen before (are you serious? Its cult classic!) and it didn’t really strike me as one I will be seeing again, it’s a personal preference.

Going on a boat canal was a really lovely experience, imaging this scene: a golden red fiery skies as the sun go down,  a cool breeze tickle your skin like a feather on the tip of the skin, the sound of calm water crashing on the shoreline and  the boat engine. It was a perfect clear evening so I can imagine myself perhaps riding on the canal sipping on a virgin pina colda just looking at the night skies, I now know why people take boat canal holidays or have one for themselves.

I will like to talk about The Floating Cinema (as it known as) which was the cinema boat canal :

The Floating Cinema is an award winning architectural structure that brings programmes of film and expanded cinema events tailored to the canals and rivers it visits.

UP Projects created The Floating Cinema in 2013 designed by award winningDuggan Morris Architects. The Floating Cinema is an extraordinary floating structure, a mobile arts venue and cinema that navigates the waterways of London and the UK. UP Projects devises a programme of film screenings, participatory events, workshops and talks to a yearly changing theme, curated in partnership with artist / film-maker duo Somewhere [Nina Pope & Karen Guthrie]. The project has gained a reputation as one of London’s cultural highlights bringing the innovative and the unexpected to a multitude of locations and communities across the city. Floating Cinema events vary in size from intimate floating tours for 12, on-board screenings, workshops and talks for up to 20 people, to large-scale outdoor screenings for audiences of 500+. The project is supported by a variety of partners including Foundation for FutureLondon (the charity of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park), Canal & River Trust, Arts Council England, BFI awarding funds from The National Lottery and King’s Cross Central Limited Partnership.

A very cool concept I think you will agree on! Click on their website to find out more details. I was chatting to the lady who owned the canal boat and she was saying how relaxing it is to be on a canal boat – you know what I completely agree.
