While some people are gingerbread men expert. For me it’s always the crumbly gingerbread men fail.
It just wouldn’t be Christmas by me not attempting some gingerbread baking and plus it’s becoming a little bit of a blog tradition. Every year I always have at least one blog post on me baking some gingerbread men. One year have been a baking success and while another year was a total and utter fail.
So it no surprise that once again I’m trying to bake some gingerbread men. I want this year to be pinterest perfect and for me to win the universe best gingerbread baker ever award. I want to crack this crazy gingerbread skill once and for all.
With that, I actually thought I would only very slight cheat this year. I’m still baking some gingerbread men – but not exactly from scratch.
I’m using Waitrose Gingerbread Reindeer kit. What could possibly go wrong? Nothing in theory – but oh ho my friends, you shall see.
With this kit, you supposed to be making the dough from scratch – Here is my step by step guide on me doing this.
First I put the powdery mixture in a bowl and then added the butter.
And then the little packet of Golden syrup.
I whisked all the mixture all together to make it into a doughy substance.
I then kneaded the dough into ball. Can anyone else see a face in this picture?
Next I rolled it out.
The real tricky part – cutting out the shape.
Ok so you’re thinking, so far Anna everything is looking good. Where the fail?
Well the dough mixture from the gingerbread kit was very crumbly and it didn’t exactly stick together very well. The kit instruction said use butter and gold syrup with the floury mixture – however that didn’t work so well together.
Because of that I could only make 4 gingerbread men. As soon as I cut out one shape, it would just fall to pieces.
I honestly don’t know where I went wrong. I’ve comes to the conclusion that the mixtures overall just could not stick and it was just crumbly and dry. I also think I didn’t put in enough butter at the beginning – ever those I weighed it out.
Anyway here are my end results.
You can see the cracks and how frickin’ crumbly the gingerbread dough was.
To make it even more of an epic fail and why I suck at gingerbread men. I cannot do icing decoration.
Instead of making 4 pretty gingerbread men, I made a demented clown, a demonic man, a ninja and a sex addict. Those wasn’t my words by the way – When I showed this to Richard he laughs and told me it looks like that. We had a good laugh and promised me to give up gingerbread men baking.
It tasted fine – if a little dry. But I think I have finally learnt my lesson. I cannot bake gingerbread men and I will never win that award.
I also learnt to stop buying baking kit – well gingerbread kit anyway as it never works out with how it looks on the packet. Never.
From next year I’ll bake some regular chocolate chip cookies. What could go wrong with that? We shall see my friends, we shall see..
