I have already written this blog post twice and both times it seems to have crashed on me, I think technology doesn’t like me today.
If you know me in, you would know that I love a little bit of cooking. I simple love finding new recipe, new ingredients that I never would thought would have work when mixed in something else, new flavours, quite frankly an entire new meal.
There is one thing I should add, I am a fussy eater, I would eat anything green (peas, broccoli and cabbage) and you can forget me eating beetroot. I’m choosy and picky with my food, I like to know what exactly in my food, anything that I don’t like I simple won’t eat it. I use to be a restaurant worst nightmare when I was younger, but luckily I have grown out of it, I’m still a dinner party nightmare so I never will do Come Dine with Me.
However I do make sure I keep myself healthy, I do eat two potion of Vegetable a week, drink plenty of fruit juice and take multivitamin daily. I’m pointing this out as people around think I eat a junk food diet, but I simple don’t, you will never find me in a McDonald.
In the past few years I have become obsessed with cook book, it could be that I work part-time at Waitrose and talking to customers you learns a lot of new recipe.
The current cookbook I have been obsessed over it the latest book from Nigella Lawsom ‘Nigellissima’. It an Italian cook book and i don’t normally like Italian food as I find them a little rich in favour, however the recipes in this book is simple mouth-watering and really simple to make, especially for a beginner like me.
What I normally do when I find a new recipe, I tend to add my own stamp and put my own flavours and make it my own, still keeping with the recipe but add a little mixture of Italian and British.
This is what I did with one of the recipe from the book, it called ‘Sausages Beans & Pepper’ but I went my own path and mix it up a little. My husband when I cooked it for him, declared it delicious and yummy, and trusts me he is the hardest food critic to please.
So I thought I share this little recipe with you, it is an awesome evening meal to have if you have any young children who are fussy eater or you want something quick to cook. If you do make it let me know and tell me your thoughts.
Anna’s Own Sausages Beans & Peppers Recipe
Ingredients
1. 2 sausages (or 4 if you are sharing it with two people, the original recipe say Italian sausages, but I only had bog standard supermarket sausages to hand).
2. Pepper (I used a sweet red pepper as it not so strong flavour) – any colours.
3. Butter Beans (tinned)
4. Trottole Tricolore (You can buy this is Sainsbury, it a form of pasta but it has spinach and tomato pasta, you can use any pasta).
5. Tinned Tomato (with or without basil).
6. Onion rings (optional, I added them to give some crispness and crunchiness, I used only breadcrumb onion rings).
7. Chorizo (either in a sausage form or packet sliced.)
8. Garlic Puree
Making them
1. First fry in oil the sausages in the pan, leave them to get golden brown but turn them over and keep an eye on them, also it might be a good idea to keep it on a low heat. I added Garlic Puree to get a garlic taste and smell, it optional but it make your sausages really garlic.
2. (Optional) heat up the Onion rings and put in the oven, refer to packaging instruction.
3. Start too chopped up the Peppers and if you are using chorizo sausages start slicing up.
4. When the sausage look golden brown, toss in the Peppers, Chorizo and tinned tomato, stirred and let them soaked in the flavours. Leave it on low heat and let it sizzle in the background (but keep an eye on it and stirred it from time to time.)
5. Boiled a kettle, add in the Trottole Tricolore in a saucepan and cook pasta how you would normally.
6. If you have a spare hob ring and a saucepan then pour in the butter beans and heat up (refer to tin instruction).
7. Once they all look cooked and have a sample taste to see if the butter beans and pasta are done, drained the water from the butter beans and start to serve up.
8. Serve up all the other ingredients on a plate and bon appetite.
9. Get your husband or friend after worth to do the washing up.
I hope I have explained it properly, if you get stuck let me know and I give you a hand. I used standard supermarket ingredients so you can buy this anywhere.
