I have never been the kind of girl who cannot leave home without a little bit of lippy. However, my current obsession with Clinique Pop Liquid Matte Lips Colours is making me reconsider my decision and making me not want to leave the house without it.

The reason I never been a lippy kind of girl is the fact that I’m allergic to lipstick. Yeah as you can imagine that sucks! Lipstick just brings me out in sore and rashes. It the fact that there is something in lipstick, an ingredient which my lips don’t like.

I also should add that, another reason why I’m not a lippy-kind-of-girl is the fact that my husband doesn’t like me wearing lipstick or even lip balm. His reasons behind it that he wants to kiss me whenever without getting a kiss stain. Which makes me laugh at my mother would constantly tell me that boys only like girls in lipstick (completely ignoring that I’m allergic to lipstick).

I spent a large amount of my time growing up ignoring lipsticks. I brought all kind of make-ups in my time, but I would completely ignore lipsticks. If a make-up artist suggested to me adding a dab of lipstick, I’m like no thanks. It safe to say, Lipsticks has never been on my make up lists.

It was only recently that I notice that there is a way I can get a little bit of lippy in my makeup collection. Lips crayon or balm. As they don’t usually contain the same ingredient as lipstick.

So that what I’ve been using and trying out. However, while it nice to find something that doesn’t burn my lips off (well it doesn’t exactly burn my lips off – but you know what I mean!), it doesn’t give me a coloured pop look on my lips. I find my lips don’t exactly stand out and tend to blend in – not popping out.

Now, this might be a surprise to you, but I do like my make up to stand out and have that popping effect. So many people think the cause of my pale complexion that I should choose neutral colours. Well, that might be true, that yes my pale complexion would work better for neutral colours; it just isn’t me.

I’m not talking ott eye-popping colours here, something that makes you look across between an 80s pop star and a drag queen. But just enough to make the makeup stand out. Show enough to people that you are in fact wearing makeup.

And that the problem I have been faced with using non-lipstick products. For a lot of lips crayons or balm, they all tend to be on neutral colours scheme.

A while ago I was in John Lewis on my £40 John Lewis challenge and I happened to walk over to the Clinique stand. The shop assistant mentioned there was a special discount of Clinique lips products that day. I told her my problem with lipsticks and how I avoid it like the plague – no problem she told me as they have an alternative. Clinique Liquid Pop Matt Lip Colour.

The shop assistant asked if I would like a demo, I said sure as she explained to me that it alternative lipstick to people who can’t actually wear lipstick. I kind of thought, if it starts burning my lips then I can remove it, there no harm in trying it out.

I didn’t stay long after the demo as I was chased/followed by a security guard and it was making me feel really uncomfortable.

But two hours later I still had my demo lips liquid on. No burning and no rashes. As you can imagine I was most impressed by it. So much so that the next day I went to Boots and bought two Clinique Pop Liquid Matte Lips Colours.

Now let me show you a little on Clinique Pop Liquid Matte Lips Colours and why it’s different to any other alternative lipstick products.

I bought two colours: Cake Pop & Petal Pop. Cake Pop is the colour I first uses when I have a demo in John Lewis.

I also feel I should do a disclaimer here. I’m rubbish at taking pictures of myself. I’m either not looking at the camera or not smiling. I will say I’m not miserable, I’m just concreting on getting the best pictures result.

(Like I said: Don’t I look happy in these pictures.)

I do think this shade does give me a lovely shade of pink to my lips and bring out the rosiness of my cheek. It also goes well with my pale complexion. However, while I like the colour and think it suit me down to a T; it kind of just blended into my natural lip colour. From the first impression, it kind of doesn’t look like I’m even wearing anything on my lips.

This is not to say I don’t like this shade because I do. I just feel it doesn’t give my lip that pop-of-colour I was talking about earlier. I feel I would wear this shade when I’m at a garden party or having a dress down day while at an event. It also I feel a summer shade and work well on a summer day.

Petal Pop:

I picked up the second shade as I like the name ‘petal pop’ and how it has a slight purple/pinky tinge/colour to it. This most defiantly a bolder and vibrant shade.

Ladies and gentlemen, we have a winner here. This is the lips colour I have been looking for. While my husband has already told me he doesn’t like it. I do – I bloody love it.

It has that pop of colour which makes me stand out, it works well with my complexion and just gives my overall whole look that extra special.

Petal Pop I feel is my shade and one that I would wear pretty much all year round.

So there you go, my quest in finding alternative lips products that will give me a pop of colour. I have been impressed with Clinique Pop Liquid Matte Lips Colours. However, do be aware that it does smudge and doesn’t stay on.

Let me know if you will be picking any Clinique Pop Liquid Matte Lips Colours up and which shades you like the most.
