The home spa has become really popular in recent years. For me, it so nice to shut the outside world and doing nothing but have the Rituals of Dao on a quiet evening.
This past year I have been obsessing over Rituals, a home and body cosmetic company. It all started when I went into their flag street shop in Covent Garden if you haven’t been into one of their stores – oh my god you got to go in. It such a beautiful store as it filled with Buddha, lotus, candles and tranquil music as you browse around. It feels like you have stepped into another world, a very peaceful world.
What I think set Rituals apart from any other home and body cosmetic company, is their philosophy. And how they take inspiration from the wisdom of ancient Asian traditions.
Take for example the Rituals of Dao, which is something I’m going to show you today. The story behind this collection is Dao an ancient Chinese philosophy centred on achieving the perfect harmony between Yin and Yang. Focusing on nourishing your Yin energy, The Rituals of Dao collection helps you to find inner peace and tranquillity in your busy life.
As I mentioned before, I love anything to do with the far east, the ancient Asian part of the world. I would love to visit and just experience everything. So as you can imagine Rituals is right up my street.
For my birthday a few weeks ago, I did mention to people that I have been obsessing with Rituals and how much I love their products. So my mother in law very kindly brought me the Rituals of Dao gift box set.
This box set contained:
- Body Cream
- Shower Foam
- Body Scrub
- Shower oil
Here how I got on with this amazing gift box set and how I felt when using this.

This relaxing shower oil transforms into a silky soft foam on contact with water, leaving your skin feeling wonderfully soft. The oil nurtures and hydrates your skin while showering. Combines the relaxing fragrance of White Lotus with the nourishing properties of Yi Yi Ren, an ingredient traditionally used in Chinese medicine.
I have to admit I very rarely use shower oil; I think the last time I did use was when I was at a spa (and we all know how much I love my spa day!). So I was intrigued with this and couldn’t wait to try this out. The oil itself is a deep brown colour and very runny when you first pump it out. I could smell the white lotus, this isn’t a strong smell and once on the dump skin, it doesn’t linger either. I was surprised to see the deep brown oil soon turn to a white lathering form when on damp skin.
It didn’t stain my skin or create a mess in the shower, so this is a very lovely shower oil to use when you need some time out and want a relaxing shower.
Allow your skin to find harmony with the relaxing fragrance of White Lotus and nourishing qualities of Yi Yi Ren, which is regularly used in Chinese medicine.
As with the shower oil, it has been a while since I used a shower foam. So I was again keen to try this out. The foam does come out of the can very fast, so do watch out and don’t press too hard. You only need a small amount as it indeed does foam up once on the damp skin.
This feels a lot nicer than any of the other shower gel I have recently been using. The best part is, you only need a small amount each time so this shower foam I can see lasting me for a long time.
Rich, creamy moisturiser for nourishing the skin. Leaves the skin feeling silky soft. Combines the gentle fragrance of White Lotus with the nourishing properties of Yi Yi Ren, traditionally used in Chinese medicine.
This was something I used after my shower and I can see me using this as my end of daily beauty rituals. Once again I get the white lotus smell but it isn’t overpowering and doesn’t really linger. The cream itself isn’t sticky and sink into the skin instantly. As soon as you apply this on your skin it instantly makes your skin feel so soft and smooth. To the point where you keep stroking yourself as you can’t quite believe how smooth and wonderful your skin feels.
I feel this will be my new favourite body cream and something I will keep using.
A combination of ultrafine Chinese Bamboo particles within a rich cream base to gently and intensely remove dead skin cell. Hydrates without leaving the skin feeling greasy. Enriched with calming White Lotus and nourishing Yi Yi Ren extract.
I have had in the past a few naff body scrub and one that has left my skin feeling greasy and unclean. So it safe to say that I wasn’t expecting much with this body scrub. I tend to use body scrub just before I jump into the shower as I feel that when usually the scrub work best as it already cleans the top layer of the skin.
This scrub reminds me very much of clay facial mask as the texture does indeed look like a clay mask. Certainly when you apply it to the skin. I will admit I was surprised by this and hasn’t seen such a thick scrub before. It isn’t a bad thing, just something to be aware of. It might also be an idea to put a towel underneath you when applying as I did find it a little messy.
Now despite the thickness and the mess, this is a very nice body scrub and one I can safely say isn’t naff.
Overall:
If you like your body products steep in ancient Chinese traditions, then I do highly recommend the Rituals of Dao. This once again confirmed to me why I been loving Rituals products over the past year.
