What do you do when you got an entire day to kill in Germany? Well if you like us, we went to a zoo. Have I ever told you about that time we spent a day at Munich zoo? No. Well Let me tell you all about it.
A few years ago, we (husband and I) went traveling round Central Europe. We visited Paris, Switzerland, Austria, Germany and then finally Amsterdam. We took our backpack, had our interrail pass and we went off everywhere. We didn’t have a plan; we didn’t even know where we would be from one day to the next.
For us we both absolutely adore this trip and we are hoping to do it again next year. But this time we going to try and do the north of Europe. More details soon.
Anyway as I’m in a reflected mood, I thought I would tell about that time we spent a day at Munich zoo. We were in this little town on the border of Switzerland and Germany and we both decided we would love to do an overnight train. It was something we planned on doing before we started our trip, as we were trying to budget how much everything was going to cost.
We learnt that to get an overnight train we would have to travel to Germany and to Munich. So we did, we hoped onto a train and traveled to Munich. As soon as we got there, we decided to book the overnight train.
We soon learnt that the next overnight train is the following night and going to Amsterdam, perfect. But it did mean we had two days to kill. The first day we mooched around Munich by visiting a shopping mall, we also got a hotel room and chilled out in our room (ie catch up on our sleep!).
To cut a long story short, as Richard was looking on his phone on what to do the second day, he discovered that there was a zoo not far from our hotel. Our overnight train wasn’t leaving till 11:35pm so we had the entire day to kill, so visiting a zoo seemed to be the perfect solution.
Munich Zoo is deemed to be one of the cleanest and animal friendly zoo in Europe. The animals were never in cages or had no room to move around in. Instead of bars there was glass window to look into.
This gave us plenty opportunity to take plenty of photos and to basically see plenty of the animals. I came very close to a giraffe which was amazing and we had lots of fun looking at the various monkey.
