If there is one guaranteed thing to chase away those January blue and make me smile uncontrollably, that is going to a cat café. Last weekend I went to Java Whiskers.
You know how some people say going to a library or perhaps visiting a castle is their happy place, well visiting a cats café is my happy place.
How can it not be? You get to spend a good hour and a half with cats, as well as having cake, it the perfect combination: cats and cake.
I have in the past shown you lady Dinah’s cat emporium, which at the time was the only cats café in London. But over the last year, a new cats café has opened up: Java Whiskers.
Such a cool name for a cats café. Java Whiskers is based in Marylebone, a 10 minutes’ walk from Oxford Street.
As you might expect, it has the same concept as lady Dinah’s cat emporium, where you enter the café and be surrounded by cats. But this time with Java Whiskers, you’re expected to take off your shoes as the café space itself is pretty small and you don’t accidentally trend on a cats tail or something, and also to order all drinks and foods as soon as you step through the door. You also only get a limited allocated time, so be warned they get filled relatively quickly. You can spend anywhere from 55 minutes to over an hour and a half.
Once you book (which is advised to do as they might turn you away at the door) online, order your drinks (or foods) and take off your shoes, you can go into the cat’s enclosed area of the café.
You might realize from my photos that I was in love with two black & white cats. They were such cuties and purring away while I was stroking them.
As I said, the café is quite a small area, so you will be butting in on other people tables or space, but I found everyone to be friendly, and it was quite lovely to meet other crazy cats people.
Java Whiskers most defiantly chased away those January blue and made me smile uncontrollable. I’m looking forward to my next visit.
