If you were to name any recent historical figure, who would be the one person who springs to mind? I know what my answer would be, Winston Churchill. I recently visited his home and took a few photos. Here is my visit to Chartwell.
I think it is safe to say we all know who Winston Churchill is; I mean, he is such a prominent figure in history that it is impossible not to know who he is. He has been portrayed many times on shows (more recently The Crown), and I’m sure he has been mentioned a few times in history classes.
The man navigated WWII and brought tanks into the forefront of both world wars and any future wars. So, I was interested in visiting Chartwell, his home, once he has retired from parliament.
I was also interested in visiting as it was my first real chance of going anywhere now the covid restrictions have been lifted. Mask is now no longer mandatory, and oh my god, I feel so good not to wear one. I know this is a controversial topic, but I feel better already not wearing one. But I will say, if I’m out and come in close contact with someone (like being on a train or bus), then I’ll put my mask on.
I must say Chartwell is a beautiful place to visit as surrounded by English Countryside. The house itself has not been changed since Churchwell lived there, so you get a real sense of what it must have been like for him while living there.
I could waffle how the home is a quaint country English house, but I think these pictures do its justice. If you fancy times away from the busy streets of London and want to enjoy England countryside, then do visit Chartwell.
