Now this was suppose to a real Christmassy jolly post about how ginger bread men feel so festive and it a nice decorations to hang on the tree, or to hand out to people if you are doing get together. Well you see I am doing a get-together as I’m hosting the resident meeting and I thought it would be nice to have some ginger bread men on a plate so people can help themselves. I’m sure I told you this before but baking and me don’t go well together – I’m little bit of a joke but I like to think practice make perfect and I was hoping using a self made kit there was no way I would fail…Right!

So for this I used this handy little kit I picked up last time I went shopping.

A nice simple kit that has the dough already made and all you have to do is cut out the shape and stick it in the oven. When I opened it the dough was tough so the instruction said to warm it up for 3 minutes in the microwave and I did that – but somehow now the dough is too soft! The dough is really soft and crumbly – even when you coat it with flour, it just crumble in your hand; it make more of a mess then anything. So I cracked on and I somehow made 6 ginger bread men shape, it said you can do 18 but every time I make a shape, roll out the dough to make the next lot it just break and crumble so I only could only make 6 in the end. I put my 6 on a baking tray and left it to cook for 8 minutes.

This what happen when I got it out of the oven:

Yup when I lift it out of the oven all the little men just fell apart, not something I really wanted. In hindsight I should have use a baking foil but I didn’t have any but I coat the foil in butter. When I picked it up once again it jut fell to pieces- in a way it reminded me of the nursery rhythm. I think these ginger bread men are secretly trying to get away – one limb at a time.

So that not the result I wanted and I’m annoyed as I was looking forward decorations these and handing them out to people. I think next time I just have to make everything – include the dough from scratch. So people if you want crumbly gingerbread men then buy the kit other wise just do it yourself. I’m not impress – oh well at least there a Tesco at the end of road.

Thank you for taking the time to read this post. Stay tuned for more updates!
