I recently went through my Facebook account and realised that I don’t really care for Facebook anymore. I mean, when was the last time I use the platform?
This thought occurred to me on Friendship Day, which was on Friday. I still have a profile, and the app is still on my phone, but I never seem to use it or go on it.
My social media platform of choice always seems to be Instagram and Twitter; that is where I spend most of my time. But Facebook never seems to be in the mix for me, and I do not seem to care for it anymore.
I don’t care for Facebook anymore due to the realisation that most people I know on there I have stopped talking to. I was going through my friends’ list and realise that, for the most part, we haven’t spoken or seen each other for ten or more so years. They were people I knew from a different lifetime, and I’m pretty much sure they have forgotten about me.
So, not the social part of social media, then.
On Friendship Day, this makes me sad. I always felt that Facebook was a tool to check in on someone and see how they were doing. But I concluded that no matter how many times I might check in on someone or give someone a nudge, it often not returned.
I might be reading too much into this, but I feel that Facebook should be a tool for people to know to catch up and talk. But it just isn’t.
I don’t feel that this is specifically anyone fault but more of the fact that Facebook has made it impossible for personal social interaction.
Facebook has gone into more of the direction of businesses come first – more so than social friends and its aspect, which just put me off the platform.
Yeah, I might delete the app and unbookmarked Facebook as I get better and more personal social interaction on different platforms, namely Twitter and Instagram.
That was why I don’t care for Facebook anymore, and I’m certainly not going to cry about it.
What is your feeling on Facebook? What is your social platform of choice for personal interaction?
