Whether you like your jewellery to be contemporary pearls, tribal talismans, or chic chokers, then you will love the spring summer 2016 jewellery trends.
The spring summer 2106 jewellery trends are all about romance as all four host cities during the recent main fashion weeks called for a revival of some of fashion’s eternal jewellery trends, including such classic as pearls, tiaras and brooches. Designers’ revived these traditional pieces and gave them a modern 21th century reworking. After all, Chanel was the first to prove that pearls are not just for the status upper class women’s, instead this time redesigning them into choker-style necklaces. The African trend that dominated the catwalks was also reflected in accessories with tribal-inspired talisman necklaces and bracelets showing at the Valentino and Giambattista Valli shows. Here, we take a look at the four standout jewellery trends from the spring summer 2016 jewellery trends.
Statement Earrings
One of the biggest jewelry trends to hit the spring/summer 2016 runways is the return of statement earrings. These earrings are big, bold, colorful, and over-the-top. They were able to be the main headliner statement at the Oscar de la Renta, Rosie Assoulin, and Gucci shows. The best part about this trend? There’s no reason to wait. Go right ahead and go big or go home.
New-age Tiaras
The designers for SS16 destabilized the classic femininity of the tiara, by using silver headpieces to add an extra edge to their collections. At a Louis Vuitton’s show, the SS16 collection was inspired by video-game heroines, with urban-warrior models styled in in space-age headgear. On the other hand, Saint Laurent produced a grunge-inspired collection of with slip dresses and festival designs, finished with diamante tiaras. Then Dolce & Gabbana kept it classic with their signature embroidery and embellishments which appeared on all spring/summer collections and to top off the look all beautifully, with adorned crowns.
Brooch Domination
A timeless classic jewelry trend is the brooch, which was booming on the catwalks and will surely capture the public imagination. The classic brooch was revised in a modern way by designers such Vionnet who adorned the brooch with signature collars. Then there was the crystal brooch at Rochas and the opalescent brooch at Dries Van Noten.
Headbands
Chanel was really the first to catch our attention with those elegant feminine black satin headbands. The headbands were not all dainty and feminine and just came in silk or satin like the rest of Chanel. They also appeared in leather on the Proenza Schouler catwalk, and then there was black cloth based designs at Richard Chai Love show which were a lot simpler in contrast to what has been seen previously. To make this trend classic and feminine Dolce & Gabbana brought in the pearly headbands.
Choker
While we might think of choker to be gothic and 90s nostalgic, the SS16 collections bring it right up to date with the designer Balmain gold chains, adding a touch of futuristic sophistication. Leather chokers were used at Louis Vuitton while Swarovski crystal statement chokers were very much a big statement on the Balenciaga runway show with their striking edginess and touch of punk that rivalled the sophistication seen throughout the collection.
