I love spending that one day a week doing nothing and relaxing. This is why Sunday is a day of rest for me.
Can you blame me? Sunday traditionally has always been known as a day of rest. The one day where you do nothing and just relax.
Growing up I remember Sunday for me was always ‘roast dinner’ day, the whole house would smell of the roast dinner being cooked. I would sit at the kitchen breakfast bar in the morning helping my mum peeled the potatoes and stirring the Yorkshire pudding butter mixtures. Then I would just watch my mum cooking it all and taking in all the delicious aroma.
After the roast dinner being cooked and eaten, I would be nagged to do my homework so I would do that while watching cartoons.
That was my Sunday while growing up. As I got older I soon moved my day of relaxing to Monday as I then started working on Sunday. I hated working Sunday but the incentive of Sunday premium pay was too good to turn down.
As soon as I left that job and went self-employed, it felt so good to have my Sunday free again. I might not now wake up with the smell of roast dinner, but that doesn’t really matter so much as I subsequently now get roast dinner every other weekend when I visit my parents.
I suppose I could always do my own roast dinner, but I tend to do baking instead or stick to oven foods that required no effort what so ever. Like I said, Sunday is a day of rest for me.
Sunday is also when I get the place to myself, Richard is usually out working so it a day of peace for me. So I spend the day in my pjammy and settle down to watch something on Netflix or Amazon Prime. I try to get away from the computer (but sometimes the pull is too strong!), unchained myself from the desk. I also like to read. I also often would visit my parents and even when I’m there, I just tend to chill out and listen to some music.
This is why Sunday is a day of rest for me, the chance to chill out and get myself ready for the week. I’m not a religious person but growing up I would hear how God made the 7th day of the week a day of relaxing. Somehow I think many people seem to have forgotten that notion and still run around like a headless chicken. There’s no need to, slow down and chill out. Spend that one day to look after yourself.
So how do you spend your Sunday? Are you still rushing around or spending the day taking it easy?
