Over the years of being in a relationship with my husband, we have found that Valentine’s day is not a big deal for us. Here why Valentine’s day is not a big deal for us.
There was a time when Valentine’s day was a big deal for us. At the start of our relationship, we did celebrate it and made the day a big deal. But after nearly 20 years together (times files while having fun), it has lost it memento. And to be honest, it doesn’t make us feel sad at all.
When we got together, for the first few years, we brought each other silly novelty gifts, gave each other cheesy Valentine’s day card, and I believe the first few years we were together, we took one step further and took each other to Paris for one year and then New York the next year.
For both of us, we both were happy to be in a relationship. It was a feeling of, ‘oh my god I have a boyfriend’, and his feeling was pretty much the same, ‘oh my god I have a girlfriend’. It was a combined feeling of we could celebrate Valentine’s day and finally have the understanding of what the fuss is all about.
But now after so many years together, that feeling is pretty much now, ‘the old ball and chain’.
I’m not kidding. Ok, maybe I am a little.
But as I said before, after nearly 20 years together, that lovey-dovey feeling isn’t so strong.
It, not a bad thing, we still got that feeling – but now it more secure and almost do I dare say it? Sacred.
We both made our vows to love each other till death do depart us, so we both don’t need the silly novelty gifts and cheesy Valentine’s day card. Though, if you are reading this, Richard, I wouldn’t object to a romantic getaway to the Maldives. Just hinting and putting it out there.
In all seriousness, once we got married, Valentine’s day is nothing special to us. I know people might find that a little sad, but for us, not really. It saves us money on having to buy each other gifts and if you want to go out anywhere, everywhere is all booked and most places are packed. We acknowledge Valentine’s day, but now that is as far as it goes.
As I said earlier, Valentine’s day is not a big deal for us. We are happy, and we both got each other back. We probably will spend a romantic day doing a food shop or perhaps settle down to watch something on Netflix.
How are you spending Valentine’s Day?
