It a phrase we hear quite often in life, follow your heart and let nothing stand in your way. But sometimes it, not an easy thing to do. Why you should always follow your heart.
Before we get into the nitty-gritty of this post, just so we’re all clear – we all know what the phrase ‘follow your heart’ really mean? For me, it has always means, that no matter what it takes you just do it.
If you have goals where you want to be the best at something, you follow your heart and believe you can do it – and then just do it without thought, but with a definite drive.
I told you this story before where my teacher corned me while at school and told me that It was foolish and silly that I wanted to be a journalist. Cause that what I wanted to be when I grew up, a journalist. This teacher told me that I should forget about it as it will never happen.
Well, I never did forget it and I did end up graduating from Fashion journalist. So in a way, I’m got my own comeback and I follow my heart and believe that I could do it. Ok so I’m not a Lois Lane journalist (where I foolishly believe Superman would rescue me as a damsel in distress) but I’m writing for a living on here and that good enough for me.
Moral of the story, I told myself that I could do it and all I did was follow my heart and let nothing stand in my way.
I was faced with a blocked from this teacher and I managed to the break the wall and stood on my own two feet and curved a path of my own. I always said if I ever met this teacher again, I would give a piece of my mind.
So when you are faced with a block and you feel like you’re not getting anywhere in life, I have a belief system where you follow your heart and believe that good things will happen. What you want to happen – whether it being a world-class journalist or a famous actress – will happen.
Something I have learnt since being self-employed, the universe has a way of hearing your call and letting you follow your heart and helping you out when you need it the most. I don’t quite know how to explain it but there is a force in this world and it does guide you along.
What this force is – is up to you. Whether it religious or like me – spiritual. Just believe it there and it does let you follow your heart throughout life.
The hardest part when following your heart is coming across negativities – such as what I experience from that teacher. There will always be negative pessimistic people, where you go. My advice is to stand up to them and if they still don’t believe in you – then just walk away. Or give them a good slap – ok maybe don’t.
But seriously, negative people weigh you down (been there and bought the t-shirt) and you really don’t need them in your life. If they don’t believe in, you and believe you should follow your heart. Then cut them out. Sometimes easier said than done I know, but the expression, ‘keep your friend close and your enemy closer’ seems apt in this situation.
Overall what I’m saying is, follow your heart from your own happiness – you only get one life (yolo) so just make the most of it and do what you want to do. Continue to have that drive in life and to just do It or otherwise you will live with regret.
Now I want you all to tell me a follow your heart moment in life? When you were faced with a block and you have a definite drive and believed you could do it.
